First American teaser trailer to The Tale of Princess Kaguya (2013, Japan)
Originally slated to be released alongside The Wind Rises, The Tale of Princess Kaguya - the most expensive animated film in Japan’s history (and already doomed to lose money) - is directed by the legendary Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies) following a 14-year absence from moviemaking. At 78 and following the “restructuring” of Studio Ghibli, this is very likely to be Takahata’s final film. Those who have seen earlier Japanese trailers (including this tonally different six-minute trailer) already know of the scene shown here. But for this American trailer, the sound effects are present for the first time and you just wonder if that startling music is part of Joe Hisaishi’s score (if so, it already sounds like nothing Hisaishi has ever composed).
According to American distributor GKIDS, The Tale of Princess Kaguya will be released on October 17, 2014 in select theaters (this often means LA, New York, and select large cities) with a national expansion to follow. For Canadian tumblrites, it has just been announced that the film will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 5, 6, and 14.

Day 10: Favourite story
Day 11: Favourite TV contribution
Needless to say, he is making a great contribution to TV. Now I take up about Doctor Who. As you know, if it hadn’t been for Doctor Who, Sherlock probably wouldn’t be here. Also his passion produced “An Adventure in Space and Time”. I think this is his best effort to date. He sliced off from many anecdotes of DW’s birth and spun the beautiful story. This is exactly the love letter he wrote for TV and DW.
Mark Gatiss on the set of An Adventure in Space and Time.
Speaking of Mark Gatiss, tune into BBC America at 11pm ET this Saturday after the premiere of Deep Breath to see Mark Gatiss on Doctor Who: After Who Live, hosted by Chris Hardwick!
Shut the fuck up this is so amazing.
Sadly, texting is the most common form of communication amongst people my age. It’s not convenient and a pain in my ass. But it’s a very significant part of modern society, so I will reluctantly have to deal with it. x
